Yet the pleasure we partake in; was caused by the fanged grin

Rambling #4983, about Haw Par Villa, sirens and many more

I’ve been such a damn lazy arse because of this school holiday week. I’ve been waking up super late because there’s usually nothing much to be looking forward to except the usual mundane progression of the days, passing by repetitively until they hand over themselves to the other week. And I dread that other week because honestly – I’m tired of school. There always comes a time (or several times, for me) in life in which you start to question why you’re there, doing that particular thing which you feel like you used to enjoy, but you really can’t right then, because you’re just simply bored of it. Mon Dieu, why must I always be like this – constantly dissatisfied with anything I do? I can’t help but to feel like going there is like a constant thrum in the background, in which you ignore at first but when you finally stop and close your eyes, it hits you hard like an unwarranted presence.

On the other hand, I’ve been busying myself with reading Dracula and my new Hi-Fi set – blasting Kamijo and Juka’s vocals on it has been of much pleasure to me. To be honest I’ve never read Dracula before the Vampire Chronicles even though the latter is much more well-known in terms of gothic vampire fiction. I have a fiction request from a friend on DA, its main pairing is Cadmus and Herodias, a vampire and a male siren. Another blessing from the many RPs I’ve done over the holidays so far.

If I write about this pairing, I feel like I can’t do it justice because in fiction I read mostly on vampires, so I know about vampire folklore, their powers, strengths and weaknesses but I sorely lack knowledge about sirens in these aspects. I know for sure that if I write this fiction without prior knowledge or research, I can’t do a good job on this, and my friend would thus be disappointed. A siren in itself is rare enough in fiction writing – tell me, how many of you have actually picked up a book because the back summary contained the word ’siren’? – and a male siren would be even more tough to materialise in words.

And something intriguing that I’ve found after a simple Google search on sirens – the Starbucks logo on it is a siren in itself. I never noticed this before, only after I read about it.

I went to Haw Par Villa for an STA trip yesterday with Mard, Sean and his friend and I never had so much fun before. I really haven’t ran around like a uninhibited little kid for so long, and I truly enjoyed that sensation of being free to giggle girlishly and toss around words of jest with friends. I climbed around, pointed at the elaborate statues that decorated the whole park – and I decided the people who did these works of art in the form of dioramas were truly amazing. Imagine – the park was of considerable size, and life-sized statues were scattered all over the place in bright colours. And the blood and garish images in the Ten Courts of Hell were intriguing, and I can’t help but to chuckle at the thought that parents would bring their children to this place to teach them about moral values, so that they won’t go into these torture places in their afterlife. I didn’t take much pictures inside the cave because of crappy phone cameras and the heat was bordering on unbearable.

And that’s all for now, methinks.

History behind retroelectric

Once upon a time, there was a lurker around this place called Masterplanforum who didn’t really talk much to all the people there, because they seemed to be intimidating, with all their customary foreign swear words, and it made her feel out of her league sometimes. They talked in a foreign slang of English which she could barely decipher, but once she got the hang of it, it was easy to know what they were talking about. Even though she made a complete embarrassment of herself several times while trying to post and blend in with them, the efforts were somewhat wasted because people there were rude to her anyway. Some tried to be nice to her but the number of people who were harsh were more than the people who tried to be nice. She didn’t care about this, she learned from these mistakes and gradually didn’t bother to be active on that forum ever again.

Now, somewhere in the uncovered archives of this forum there was a thread which was open for forum members to promote their band, or their friend’s. On a sudden whim she decided to see which bands sounded good and which bands unfortunately didn’t. She stumbled upon a creatively named band called “Mindefine” and decided to give them a listen. They might be good, she thought.

The first song she listened to was “Retro Electric”, a piece of mindless guitar-bass-and drums drivel accompanied by echoey vocals which felt somewhat like “background music in a pub”, the kind of music which would get ignored by everyone, but it adds character to the place unconsciously for the patrons of the pub. The song title itself struck a chord within her – it was creative, cute and could represent her, despite its obvious cheesiness. She loved ‘retro’ British music – think the Beatles, the Who, the La’s, and since this obscure band was British as well, she felt a certain affinity for its song title and instantly took it up as her handle. And she was electric – there was no denying it despite what others might think.

A few months later, after inactivity, she checked the forum back for any changes, and simply for old time’s sakes. The band which gave her the idea of an online handle had disbanded and one of its members had created another band, but they didn’t appeal to her as much as Mindefine did, because their song titles weren’t as kooky as “Retro Electric”, even though their sound had much improved.

You have no idea how true this is o_O

Some random crap I found to be too true.

What Vivi Kasenda (my full name which I will not show) Means

You are very hyper. You never slow down, even when it’s killing you.

You’re the type of person who can be a workaholic during the day… and still have the energy to party all night.

Your energy is definitely a magnet for those around you. People are addicted to your vibe.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. (True! XD) It’s easy to get you excited… which can be a good or bad thing.

You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don’t stick with any one thing for very long.

You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start. (LOL Blood of the Snake XD)

You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You’re always up to something.

You have a ton of energy, and most people can’t handle you. You’re very intense. (You have no idea.)

You definitely are a handful, and you’re likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun.

You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone.

You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together.

At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.

You are very open. You communicate well, and you connect with other people easily.

You are a naturally creative person. Ideas just flow from your mind.

A true chameleon, you are many things at different points in your life. You are very adaptable.

You are truly an original person. You have amazing ideas, and the power to carry them out.

Success comes rather easily for you… especially in business and academia.

Some people find you to be selfish and a bit overbearing. You’re a strong person. (Too true!)

You are usually the best at everything … you strive for perfection.

You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.

You have the classic “Type A” personality.

You are the total package – suave, sexy, smart, and strong.

You have the whole world under your spell, and you can influence almost everyone you know.

You don’t always resist your urges to crush the weak. Just remember, they don’t have as much going for them as you do.

You are fair, honest, and logical. You are a natural leader, and people respect you.

You never give up, and you will succeed… even if it takes you a hundred tries.

You are rational enough to see every part of a problem. You are great at giving other people advice.

You are confident, self assured, and capable. You are not easily intimidated.

You master any and all skills easily. You don’t have to work hard for what you want.

You make your life out to be exactly how you want it. And you’ll knock down anyone who gets in your way!

You are relaxed, chill, and very likely to go with the flow.

You are light hearted and accepting. You don’t get worked up easily.

Well adjusted and incredibly happy, many people wonder what your secret to life is.

You are very charming… dangerously so. You have the potential to break a lot of hearts.

You know how what you want, how to get it, and that you will get it.

You have the power to rule the world. Let’s hope you’re a benevolent dictator!

You are a seeker. You often find yourself restless – and you have a lot of questions about life.

You tend to travel often, to fairly random locations. You’re most comfortable when you’re far away from home.

You are quite passionate and easily tempted. Your impulses sometimes get you into trouble.

You are a free spirit, and you resent anyone who tries to fence you in.

You are unpredictable, adventurous, and always a little surprising.

You may miss out by not settling down, but you’re too busy having fun to care.

You are a seeker of knowledge, and you have learned many things in your life.

You are also a keeper of knowledge – meaning you don’t spill secrets or spread gossip.

People sometimes think you’re snobby or aloof, but you’re just too deep in thought to pay attention to them. (Yes XD)

You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people.

You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts.

You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals. (O_o)

You are balanced, orderly, and organized. You like your ducks in a row.

You are powerful and competent, especially in the workplace.

People can see you as stubborn and headstrong. You definitely have a dominant personality.

I’m 17 already XD

Just when I thought life was turning out to be really shit, it gives into the inevitable spectacular. XD

So that particular sentence up there is totally bullshit (like SMeyer’s bullcrap Twilight series, but I’ll come to that eventually), but who gives a fuck. I’m bloody 17! w00t! :D Khai was the first one to SMS me a birthday wish, followed by Danny, etc etc… Thank you all. *sniffle* I love you all! I really, really do! I have a couple more hours to blog before 15 October expires, so I have to make this post a quick one. XD

Before today, W15M had an October babies celebration/open house/gathering at Mard’s house. I received the mega Toblerone from her and a cute letter:

View image and zoom in to read – many mentions of Kamijo XD

Fast forward to 14 October: Had dinner at school with Ben, Danny and HL after art workshop, and the moon was shining bright and full just for me. XD It was lovely.

The moon is actually better looking IRL. Blame my crap phone camera. XD

15 October: At aroung 6 am or something my brother totally surprised me by giving me Oasis’s new album Dig Out Your Soul. I was like o_O It’s international release was like 6 October, I wonder how he bought it from a Singapore record store so fast. And he never buys things online. But he said that his girlfriend was the one who had the idea, so I thanked her as well :D I’m so happy at this point.

Here’s DOYS

Front view

Rear view

Their new album is sweet :D Falling down is such a tune. I love it!

Add to my CD collection so far:

There’s DOYS on the top left hand corner :D Order of CDs: Left from top to bottom: Oasis’s Dig Out Your Soul, Lyla DVD, Don’t Believe The Truth, Heathen Chemistry, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, The Masterplan, Be Here Now, What’s the Story (Morning Glory), Definitely Maybe. Right from top to bottom: Oasis’s Stop the Clocks DVD/CD boxset, Go Let it Out single, D’You Know What I Mean single, Razorlight, Coldplay’s Parachutes, U2’s How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, Massive Attack’s Collected, Massive Attack’s Mezzanine, Muse’s Black Holes and Revelations . Those highlighted are the CDs I got from my brother for my birthdays so far :D I love my brother :D

Yeah yeah so I have a lot of Oasis CDs :D Can you blame me for being an Oasis otaku? XD

I met up with the rest of the W15M too today for lunch (well, some of them) and they serenaded me whilst I was drinking bandung in the Koufu canteen XD No pics from that one. It was nice seeing all of them, but we’d already had an October babies celebration on this past Saturday, so maybe I’d just post pictures from that one instead :D

Ooops this didn’t pass – Seantall too tall XD

This passed :D (And Seantall had to bend forward a lot. XD)

I know I look weird in this pic lol. October babies! Linds, Socks and I

Cake in question :p

It felt as though it was really my birthday then :D

Today I was very pleased (understatement!) because I was serenaded twice – once by W15M in the canteen, the other time right before Meeting 3 before I had to leave early to visit my father in hospital. My classmates from E35E sang for me and made me all flustery and all, but in a good way :D They had two birthday tarts for me and two candles for me to blow out. All together now: AWWWWWWWWW :D It was so sweet and unexpected of them to do this for me :)

My face says: ooooooooh o_O XD And the tarts are super cute. :D

My flustered face XD

This sounds so cliche and all, but it really has been the best birthday of my life so far :) I’ve never had the chance to celebrate properly as a child, because my late grandfather died on my birthday and the spirit of it has long been gone for me. Even in school it was just a simple "Hey, happy birthday" and no actual celebration for me, and no candles to be blown out for quite some time too. But now, I truly feel like there’s a reason for me to celebrate because of so many nice people who don’t care that people close to me died on my birthday and celebrate my birthday for me.

I’ve lost count of how many thank you’s I’ve had to type, SMS, and say aloud today, but it is all really worth it. I’m so happy, for once :D
