Yet the pleasure we partake in; was caused by the fanged grin

Antistar

One Day, I am going to write a full-length review on Massive Attack’s 100th Window.

But for now, I’m just going to settle for writing a description for this song, which is my current favourite at the moment. I just cannot stop listening to it over and over again… it’s just that good.

The song starts off with an Arab-esque sound, dark, moody and brooding. (Put on earphones, turn up the volume.) An extra bass kicks in, denoting the whole atmosphere of the song. A warm, masculine (yet somewhat cold at the same time) and sultry voice practically purrs out indecipherable lyrics to the hypnotic tune that leaves you in a trance-like state. Robert Del Naja’s voice is understated in this one, and his voice played like an instrument along with the music. The crest reaches, gradually yet inevitably. A sense of space can be felt, the strings are played faster and louder and you feel as though you can climax (yes, sexually) to the sensual pounding that is fed through your earphones until it slowly, slowly brings down and lower to a bass-like pitch and it ends leaving you opening your eyes to see the world around you, feeling as though – Did that really happen to me? Then you listen to it once more to experience the musical ride and be exhilarated by it again.

It does indeed make you tired but you want more and more from it.

Total plays today: 19 (and counting)

A/N: This is FUN.

Put your music player on shuffle.
Press forward for each question.
Use the song title as the answer to the question even if they don’t make sense. You’ll be surprised though.
NO CHEATING.

How am I feeling today?
Come Around Again – Jet
Comments: As in, do I have to repeat what I said again? This thing is hilarious, really.

Will I get far in life?
Better Things – Massive Attack
Comments: For better things, I suppose.

How do my friends see me?
Number 1 – Goldfrapp
Comments: Surely this thing has some supernatural powers. Or I am just narcissistic. I concede, this thing is hilarious.

Where will I get married?
Wonderwall – Oasis
Comments: I wonder if there is such a place (wall, actually) to get married at.

What is my best friend’s theme song?
Five Man Army – Massive Attack

What is the story of my life?
The Hindu Times – Oasis
Comments: I wonder.

What’s high school like?
Flourescent Adolescent – Arctic Monkeys
Comments: It is funny that the song which came up has the word ‘adolescent’ in it.

How can I get ahead in life?
Into Your Light – Leaves Eyes
Comments: Whose light, I must imagine?

What is the best thing about you?
My Sacrifice – Creed
Comments: My sacrifice? I don’t quite fancy myself to be quite a heroic person at all.

What is tomorrow going to be like?
Map Of The Problematique – Muse
Comments: Cryptic as usual.

Latest Preoccupation

It seems as though I am the only one amongst my pool of friends not to get a temporary job for the time being. So instead of working, guess what my current preoccupation is?

Get Backers or Harry Potter fan fiction writing? No, that is a side-preoccupation.

Re-reading the Vampire Chronicles? Also, no, I’ve read it so many times before I’ve practically memorized everything.

It is…

HISTORY – WORLD WAR 1!! :D

Why this dreary and boring topic, you may ask? I feel that there are certain gaps in what I was taught in school. For example, we were not explained why the Allied Powers hated the Germans so much and what atrocities they did to give them the hated Treaty Of Versailles. Also, there was only a short measly chapter (of about 3 pages) in the History book to explain the impact of World War I, and I think that this is insufficient as they did not explain what caused the World War I in the first place. So I decided to take the proactive way out to satiate my curiosity, as usual it is with me.

So I went to Bedok Library yesterday and borrowed eight books regarding this topic. 6 books on World War I and 2 books on World War II. The one I’m currently reading right now is Stanley Weintraub’s Silent Night.

I quite like this book. On some occasions, it has moved me to tears. It is a book of personal recounts drawn from personal sources like diaries and letters by the soldiers themselves. It is Christmas Eve, and the German soldiers (referred to as ‘Fritz’) and British soldiers, and on some occasions French and Prussians come together to fraternize with each other regardless of the war that was going on between them. Starting first by exchanging newspapers, tins of food etc, they move on to play football together, (I smiled whilst reading about it) sharing barrels of beer and make new friends amongst their supposed enemies. The same faith, I believe, kept them from firing at the other during their Christmas Eve. A quote from the book: “Nie wieder Krieg! Das walte Gott!” (No more war! That’s what God wants!)

Though, if you do not know some German and French, you would be quite stumped at what the author is trying to say. And a basic knowledge of what happened during World War I would help as well.

Yesterday, my father told me forcefully to return the books back to the library if it affected my emotions that much. It is only natural for books to get to your emotions when you are feeling in a certain way at the moment. I’m sure that there are others besides me who have laughed along with the characters of the story, as well as be frustrated and saddened with them. It’s only natural. I replied, “Why can’t I get to know more about what happened during the Wars? I am simply curious. Plus, it is not like you can tell me what happened then and the only way is through books.” He never studied history back in school by the way.

Sometimes, he is quite stand-offish about my interests and it pretty much angers me, that he even had the cheek to say such things to me. He should encourage me at the most. I am unhappy, to put it in nicer terms regarding his stance about my wanting to learn more about World War I.

That’s all for now. I’m going digging through the dark abyss which is deviantART for some Ban & Ginji fan art. :p

After noting how messy my blog has become due to the fan fiction teasers and my own blog posts being all jumbled up together, I have reorganized all the fictions into one page. So if you ever feel curious of my writings, and feel the urge to read my fan fiction writings, please do check them out at my-fan-fiction-updates. I would be glad to entertain any questions regarding my stories. If you want, you can be my beta (person who edits my stories and gets to read them in advance) and I would be most grateful for it since I do not have one for the moment. My English isn’t as perfect as I’d like it to be, so I’d be glad if you’d offer your kind service to me. Email me at anti-avril@hotmail.com.

How swiftly time passes, as if countless hours fly by as if it were only minutes. It makes me feel afraid yet expectant of the things to come. Sometimes I hate myself for this, this idleness that I know shouldn’t exist in me. I want to stand on the belief that I deserve to be idle, at least for an infinitesimal amount of time. From time to time again I wait as if a miracle would happen before my very eyes. I should be studying now, learning more, broadening my scape, but I find myself revisiting old memories and it is difficult not to breach out from my comfort zone and do other things.

Is reading not a pleasure? I find myself reading and reading every single second of my time. Even without books, for instance, I would be thinking about the latest book I’ve read and thinking of the arising complications and how the characters would feel; evaluating them constantly until I succumb to the temptation and read again. Ah, the wonders of an overactive mind.
